NFC (near-field communication) chips are tiny data containers that connect physical garments / shoes / accessories to digital content just like QR codes. NFC operates within a short range, usually just a few centimeters. When an NFC-capable device like a smartphone gets close to an NFC tag or another compatible device, it creates a connection and allows data to move between them. This makes it easy for customers to access information, make payments, or interact with digital content by merely tapping their devices on NFC tags or scanning NFC codes on products or marketing materials.
The metaverse is a concept that refers to a persistent three-dimensional virtual environment, in which people can interact with each other and with digital objects in a manner similar to real-life interaction. It is conceived as a kind of immersive internet where people can create, share, work and socialize. The metaverse could include different technologies, such as virtual reality, augmented reality and virtual worlds, offering immersive and engaging experiences.
There are several areas where the metaverse could have a significant impact:
- Communication and socialization: The metaverse could allow participants to interact and connect with people from all over the world in a shared virtual environment. This could overcome geographical and cultural barriers, providing a meeting place for richer cultural, social and communicative exchanges.
- Work and learning: The metaverse could revolutionize the way people work and learn, providing the opportunity to collaborate more effectively in projects, sharing knowledge and skills in a more interactive and engaging way.
- Immersive experiences: The metaverse can be a vehicle for the exploration of virtual worlds and participation in experiences not possible in real life. For example, it could be used for training in areas such as medicine, architecture and automotive driving, allowing users to acquire practical skills in a safe and simulated environment.
- Digital economy: The metaverse could create a digital economy in which users can create, exchange and sell virtual goods. This could open up opportunities for entrepreneurs in the field of design, digital art, virtual experiences and events, and much more.
Examples of different uses:
- The metaverse can be used as a platform to explore and experiment with new designs and styles without physical limitations. Designers can create advanced and unique virtual dresses, which may be too complex or expensive to produce in real life. This allows them to express their creativity to the fullest and to offer consumers a wide range of choices.
- expand the networking: create virtual fashion communities, where fashion enthusiasts can connect, share ideas, inspire each other and even collaborate on projects.
- create immersive virtual shopping experiences, giving users the chance to try on clothes, accessories and makeup virtually without having to touch or wear them physically.
- metaverse allows fashion brands to expand their reach and engage a global audience. Virtual catwalks and fashion events can reach an unlimited number of viewers around the world, allowing brands to achieve greater visibility and interact directly with consumers from across the globe.
There are examples of fashion brands that have embraced the metaverse and have started to create a virtual presence to interact with their customers. Some examples include:
- Gucci: Gucci has partnered with The Roblox Corporation to create a virtual experience within Roblox’s metaverse called “Gucci Garden Experience”. Users can visit the virtual Gucci Garden, discover the latest collections and participate in virtual events.
- Louis Vuitton: The luxury brand Louis Vuitton has launched a video game called “Endless Runner”, available on mobile devices, in which players can virtually navigate through the iconic boutique of the maison in Paris to collect products from fashion collections.
- Balenciaga: Balenciaga has created a virtual collection, called “Afterworld: The Age of Tomorrow”, presented through a video game in which users can explore a virtual world and interact with clothing digit
- Burberry: Burberry partnered with the mobile game “Honor of Kings” to create a virtual experience where players can customize their avatars with brand-inspired outfits and accessories.
